Teaching Methods

At the University of St. La Salle Basic Education, especially in Grade 1D with Teacher Riza Mae Guarin, the teaching methods are fun, interactive, and student-centered. Teacher Riza makes sure that every student is engaged by using activities.

The class usually starts with a short prayer, followed by greetings and a quick review of the previous lesson. Then, Teacher Riza introduces the new topic in a way that is easy to understand, often using pictures, videos, or real objects. Students are encouraged to ask questions, share their ideas, and participate in discussions. She also gives individual assignments to help students learn to work independently.

Every day, students have a snack break and a short nap while waiting for the next subject or teacher. This helps them relax, regain energy, and stay focused for the rest of the school day. It’s also a great time for them to chat with their classmates and enjoy some quiet moments.

Learning Materials and Innovation

In Grade 1D, learning materials include textbooks, worksheets, and multimedia resources like videos and interactive presentations. These materials are based on the Philippine Department of Education’s Basic Education Curriculum (BEC), ensuring students get a strong educational foundation.

Learning Resources and Technology

USLS Basic Education provides good learning resources and technology in the classroom. Each classroom has a TV or projector, which teachers use to present lessons, show educational videos, and display learning materials. There’s also a school library where students can borrow books and explore more about different topics.

In Grade 1D, Teacher Riza often uses the TV screen to present lessons and show fun videos related to the topic. However, in some classrooms where TVs are not used, she prints large posters or hand-drawn materials to explain the lesson. This way, students can still learn effectively, no matter the available technology.

Authentic Assessment

Assessment in Grade 1D is not just about tests and quizzes. Teacher Riza uses different ways to check students’ understanding, such as:

  • Daily participation – She observes how students engage in class activities and discussions.
  • Practice exercises – After explaining a lesson, she gives simple exercises or worksheets to test students' understanding.
  • Performance tasks – She asks students to explain a concept, draw something related to the lesson, or act out a short story to see how well they understand the topic.

After assessments, she gives feedback and encourages students to keep improving, making sure that learning remains a positive experience.

Others

USLS Basic Education also focuses on character-building, not just academics. In Grade 1D, Teacher Riza teaches students about kindness, teamwork, and responsibility. She often reminds them to respect each other, follow school rules, and develop good manners. The school also holds various activities like community service projects, school events, and cultural celebrations. These help students develop social awareness, teamwork, and an appreciation for different traditions.

Every day, students have time for a snack and a short nap before moving on to the next subject or waiting for a new teacher to arrive. This daily break is important because it helps them recharge and stay focused throughout the day. It also gives them a chance to relax, talk with friends, and develop good habits like time management and self-discipline.

Conclusion

Overall, the teaching approach in Grade 1D with Teacher Riza is engaging and supportive. She makes sure that learning is not just about memorizing but also about understanding, interacting, and applying knowledge in real life. With fun activities, useful resources, and a warm classroom environment, students enjoy their lessons while developing important life skills.
